Aliza Licht talks Leave Your Mark and Gives Good Advice

I had the absolute honor of recently interviewing Aliza Licht (a.k.a. DKNY PR GIRL on Twitter) about her new book, Leave Your Mark

LR: First of all, I think the message you have always given was one of approachability. From your constant interaction with your FRIENDS (not Followers!) on Twitter, to this book and all the personal antidotes you've shared. Mentoring seems to come easily to you, as a natural progression of wanting to share your knowledge with those desiring to follow in your footsteps. Tell me the best career advice one of your mentors ever gave to you.

AL: Say thank you, sincerely and often.

LR:  It amazes me how you practically built DKNY PR GIRL from a mere idea into the powerhouse social media presence it has become. You serve as an incredible example of the ideal social media rock star! What is the one piece of advice you would give those who are looking to break into the social media world?

AL: Mind your personal brand. Know what you stand for and what you want your online reputation to look like.

LR: I have to ask this question because we are both moms, How do you do it ALL? Give me some of your best work/family life balance tips.

AL: I have an amazing husband and family. You can't do it alone. When I'm home it's about home and when the kids go to sleep, I work. You can get it all done, you just have to be willing to lose sleep!

LR: Throughout the book, you talk about how important it is to familiarize yourself with not just your own job but also the jobs of those around you in other departments and to use them as ladders for your next career opportunity. (That was actually one of my favorite "tips", how you transformed the sales rep internship into a stepping-stone to magazines.) What advice would you give to someone who is still trying to find their perfect career fit?

AL: Network and learn about your options. Try as many different things as you can.
